Here is a little bit of a prediction. I would charge any of our loyal Greencon blog readers to do this exercise. Do a spreadsheet on how much you spend in fuel per year, and how much you spend on electrical bills per year. Then cross reference that with an average predicted increase in both those energy prices over the next ten years.

Then look at investing in Solar PV on a modular basis, adding onto a system year on year as budget allows. For now use it to merge with your house electricity to reduce that cost and then to eventually have extra capacity for either feeding back onto the grid or for using to charge a stationary car.

If you invest wisely, by the time fully functional cars are available in South Africa you will be able to power your energy efficient house, clean car and ‘sell’ power back to the grid.

The world is lobbying for this eventually, don’t say I didn’t tell you so!

pia_nameandcar.jpgPlug In America, one of the nation’s leading plug-in vehicle advocate groups featured in the now popular Who Killed the Electric Car documentary, is taking its message to the ongoing Democratic National Convention. There, along with a group of enthused clean-car supporters, Paul Scott, the organization’s co-founder, is blogging right from the Pepsi Center to raise awareness about the real solution to our energy and climate crisis.

In addition to spearheading the plug-in vehicle movement over the web, Scott and other group members are actually offering rides in silent, zero-emission EVs to policy makers and the public. These cars make up the Electric Vehicle Rolling Showcase and include the Tesla Roadster, Toyota RAV4 EV, AC Propulsion eBox and a plug-in Toyota Prius. Giving a first-hand EV experience to convention delegates is important. However, the real goal, Scott says, is to bring about change by capturing the imagination of the Democratic nominee-to-be Barack Obama himself.

Plug In America will be leaving the DNC as it concludes at the end of the week. Next stop — the Republican National Convention in September, where the group members will once again hit the show floor to distribute materials and spread the word about electric mobility.”

When will you be Solar Electric?
